WASH INTERNATIONAL TRUST (WASHI) IN MALAWI, (TR/INC:7689) was registered in 2019 as a charity in Malawi. It is founded on the principle “Don’t Destroy the World, Preserve It: Genesis 2:15” and is working towards the global agenda of ending WASH poverty in Africa, building the resilience of communities and strengthening their self-supporting capacities. WASHI seeks to improve community access to clean, safe drinking water and provide climate-smart irrigation technologies to economically empower women and youths in vulnerable communities. The demand for WASH and resilience building in rural communities is real. WASHI is a practical voice at the family level in strengthening the delivery of WASH services as a safety net against climatic shocks. The Trust’s MaTech technologies can be easily maintained by local communities without any outside technical assistance using locally available materials and Geospatial information and Digital mapping in its programming to enhance decision making. The Trust will establish a Farmer Research and Technology Development Centre for the farmers to showcase their creativity in developing low-cost, adaptive and easy-to-maintain technologies in Malawi and for rural Africa. Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) is a constant throughout for such innovative interventions that will allow tens of thousands of families to be served with low cost and high impact WASH and Climate Smart Technologies whose return on investment can be easily measured. The WASHTECH innovations will continually be rigorously tested, documenting evidence to measure effectiveness and disseminate information for feedback and learning.
